Seattle’s App-Based Worker Paid Safe and Sick Time Ordinance

Under the City of Seattle’s App-Based Worker Paid Sick and Safe Time Ordinance (No. 126788), Amazon Flex delivery partners accrue 1 Paid Sick and Safe Time (PSST) day for every 30 days in which they complete deliveries with at least one pick-up or delivery stop in the city of Seattle.

Changes effective January 13, 2024

In accordance to the ordinance, the following changes go into effect on January 13, 2024:

  • The ordinance coverage expands from food delivery network company workers to app-based workers who perform services in Seattle. This means that Amazon Flex delivery partners accrue 1 PSST day for every 30 days in which they complete deliveries of any type with at least one pick-up or delivery stop in the city of Seattle.
  • Average daily compensation is calculated as the average daily earnings for days delivery partners complete deliveries of any type with at least one pick-up or delivery stop in the city of Seattle during the prior 12 months, excluding tips and PSST payments.
  • Amazon Flex delivery partners can view their PSST balance and request to use PSST in the Amazon Flex Seattle PSST Portal. Amazon Flex delivery partners may submit 1 PSST request per day. As of January 13, 2024, Amazon Flex delivery partners will no longer be able to submit requests to use PSST by contacting Amazon Flex Support.

Amazon Flex’s PSST Policy and Procedures can be found here and a Notice of Rights can be found here.
